The two buttes on the left are called East Mitten and West Mitten, named for their shapes resembling mittens. The large butte on the far right is called Merrick Point, named after silver miner Jack Merrick, killed by Indians in 1880. We set up our cameras long before sunrise to capture the vivid early morning colors. Marvene and I hung a large copy on our staircase wall in Sugar Land.
