Panoramic view of snow-capped mountains against a bright blue sky with colorful kayaks in the foreground.

Our group of photographers had gotten up at 3:30 a.m. to set up for a sunrise shot of Mt. Everest and the majestic Himalayan Mountain Range. At an altitude of 17,000 feet, our lookout point in the mountains of Nepal was extremely cold. The NatGeo guide led me down the side of the mountain a short distance so that I could include these prayer flags in the foreground of my shot. I was an inexperienced photographer and unsure of my camera settings for this complicated composition. A medical emergency arose with one of our photographers, and we had to evacuate the area immediately to get him to a lower altitude. Thankfully, he recovered well. I didn’t think I had gotten any good shots, so I was pleased to discover this image when I downloaded my photos. It helps me remember that remarkable morning.
