This polar bear had just finished feasting on a narwhal whale. James and I were on an amazing Backcountry Journey photo trip to the Arctic. The ship captain and his guides had been searching for polar bears for several days. This was our final day in the ice fields. We were about four hundred miles from the North Pole when we came upon no less than twelve polar bears who had been dining on the narwhal whale carcass. While they kept a reasonable distance from one another, we were able photograph as many as five grouped together. The entire ship’s crew joined the photographers on deck to capture this unique experience on camera. It was the ultimate polar bear experience.
