Just outside Santa Fe, New Mexico is an abandoned western town originally set up for filming movies and television shows. Interstate 25 was later constructed nearby, and the highway became visible from the western town. It was not practical to film in the town after that. NatGeo occasionally holds photography workshops there, like the one I attended in 2008. One of our assignments was to pose certain actors and practice taking candid shots. This actor was very photogenic and really looked the part. I imagine Louis L’Amour could have crafted a remarkable story centered around this scene.
