These huge grizzly bears often weight four hundred to six hundred pounds and stand eight to ten feet tall. Katmai Coast is one of the best locations in Alaska for viewing and photographing these magnificent animals. We slept in tents right in this area. The bears walked close by but would not come inside the tent encampment because of the electric wire that encircled our sleeping area. (At least, that what our guides told us.)
