A stunning panoramic view of Niagara Falls illuminated at night with colorful lights reflecting on the mist and water.

Marvene and I had wanted to see Niagara Falls for many years. That opportunity presented itself when we combined a visit to the falls with a Viking cruise of Canada and the east coast of the US. We loved the falls and especially the night lights.

It is difficult to imagine that 750,000 gallons (2,832 tons) of water flows over Niagara Falls every second! I wondered where all this water came from and why it doesn’t dry up. A Google search indicated that rainfall and rivers supply continuous water to the Upper Great Lakes, Lake Superior, Lake Huron, and Lake Michigan, which drain to Lake Erie and pass through Niagara Falls to Lake Ontario and on to the St. Lawrence Seaway and out to the Atlantic Ocean. Amazing!
