Ancient stone ruins of Machu Picchu nestled in the Andes Mountains with dramatic peaks and green valleys in Peru.

A visit to Machu Picchu had been on our list for several years. Machu Picchu is located high in the Peruvian Andes. It was a sacred Inca citadel built around 1450 AD and uncovered in 1911. Sitting at almost 8,000 feet elevation, it offers breath-taking views of the ruins and surrounding mountains. Marvene and I, along with the Perrys, were fortunate to visit these ancient ruins before there was partial closure for restoration and before Peru became somewhat dangerous to visit.
